One Wing Foundation Reaches Out to Grieving Families

Western Extrusions Corporation, based in Carrollton, Texas, offers high-quality aluminum extrusions to customers in the building and construction trades and the energy, transportation, and consumer goods industries. In addition, Western Extrusions supports a variety of charitable causes, including One Wing Foundation, which works to support families grieving over the stillbirth of a child.

One Wing Foundation is the product of two families’ devotion to the memories of the children they lost before birth. The parents came together to channel their personal pain into an organization that offers help and a public voice to those similarly bereaved.

The group raises funds to provide Texas parents of stillborn children with needed medical care, financial assistance, and emotional support and counseling after their loss. Working with the goal of furthering these parents’ healing and giving hope for the future, One Wing also hosts an online memory wall on which parents can inscribe their children’s names as an ongoing tribute.

The partner beneficiaries of One Wing’s support in 2016 included the Grief and Loss Center of North Texas, the William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital, and Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas.

Aluminum - A Uniquely Malleable and Ductile Metal Created from Bauxite

Serving the machining needs of clients spanning the country, Western Extrusions maintains a 750,000-square-foot facility and has five extrusion presses which include a pair of state-of-the-art large diameter presses. The Western Extrusions team takes pride in meeting the needs of clients for extruded aluminum projects of a wide range of sizes and dimensions.

The most common element within the earth’s crust, aluminum trails only oxygen and silicon in worldwide abundance. Along with gold, it is among the most malleable of metals and not typically strong enough to be used by itself. For this reason, most aluminum products actually involve a combination of smaller amounts of metals such as copper, manganese, magnesium, and silicon.

Aluminum is chemically extracted from bauxite, which is typically mined from the earth’s surface. This process involves heating the ore with a sodium hydroxide solution until the aluminum separates from the ore. The aluminum is then subject to a heating process that involves electrification of a molten substance before it solidifies as a hardened aluminum product that can be used for everything from cans to construction materials.
